[This is not the kind of question Hope usually gets, so it takes him a moment to respond.]

If you truly wish to do something like that, what powers me is the emotion of hope. If you are able to cause it in others, or feel it yourself, it will give me energy.

Huh. That's — well not easy, but...what I try to do anyway.

[Definitely not easy.]

At the very least I'll try to feel it for myself as often as I can.

[He scratches the back of his head, around the straps of his mask. He doesn't know how this god thing works but he thought it would be a little more...well, he doesn't know what he expected. But it's good to know. He's glad he asked.]

And I just wanted to say, before I left...I know you have your hands super full with everyone being...[The way that they are, not that Sal blames some of them for being angry or mistrustful. Others he feels are a bit unnecessary in the way they approach things with the gods. At the end of the day, they all have very real feelings and emotions, don't they? Why can't all sides be considered respectfully?

He doesn't actually finish that train of thought. It's a complicated situation.] But, thank you. [He tries to get across the gratitude he can't express from behind his mask through his tone.] I know it's hard for you guys to deal with us, since we're all from very different walks of life than you. It's probably hard to understand why we do the things we do. We probably don't understand it half the time ourselves. At least, some of us.

But thank you; for bringing our dead back so we don't end up in some awful limbo. And for trying your best to give us the things we need to survive. And for trying to spread hope despite all the things that happen. I know that's what you do but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be acknowledged.

[Usually people are yelling at him instead, so his expression of gratitude is rather silted. But he is honest.]

Though I did not wish for any of you to be brought here, now that you are here you are my responsibility. We have very different opinions about all of you, and that is mine. I don't need to be thanked for what I do, but I am... happy to know that it doesn't go unnoticed.

[Sal understands that, at least.]

You don't need to be thanked but you should be. [And that's that!!] If you ever find yourself especially low on energy or something...just let me know? And I'll work extra hard to help you get some back, okay?

I will do so. But do not put yourself out for me - things have been going more or less well. No one has tried to kill me in some time. [Which is awesome!!] I am not in dire need of energy.

[Okay, he gets people being angry and confused, of course. But if he wanted to be all strategically minded or whatever that sounds like a bad idea.

Also it makes him sad.]

The Null have wished to kill me for some time now. It seems that some of you agree with them.

[It's shortsighted, in Hope's opinion, but he knows humans are not ruled by logic.]

Oh, I'm sorry.

[His head drops a bit for a moment. Yeah, that sucks to hear. He's not surprised, but still, the gods shouldn't have to worry about both the Null and the people here. Well, at least the ones not traumatizing people.]

They have to see reason in time, though. Maybe not everyone, because some people will never get it. But most people aren't as bad as they seem. Most people can eventually see reason. [Can they??? He's just hopelessly optimistic. But he's also seen it in his fair share of people.] I know it doesn't seem like it, but it's true. They'll come around eventually. Maybe even the most stubborn of them.

I believe the same thing. It is a cliche, perhaps, especially for me, but it's important to always have hope. The people here can be illogical and infuriating, and they like to blame me for nearly everything, but they can also be kind and resourceful - particularly when helping each other.

It's good to see.

I think I understand. I've had people blame me or dislike me for no real reason too, but I've also seen some of those people come around. It's a great feeling. I mean, cliches are cliches because they work, right?

[Well, in fiction, but he likes the sentiment so he's sticking with it.]
