There is nothing else quite like the Door, but there are other things, yes. Nothing useful.

Others have tried, sometimes more subtly and sometimes not. There are many things we don't understand about humans, but we are not that stupid.

Most of them are not here, and many of them we don't know much about. But since you are curious - the light that illuminates this city is another artifact. Not like the Door, you see, but still useful.

It could be safer here, yes. It could also be far less safe. We do what we can.

'Preciate that. ( It's not always, maybe even often, successful, but they do try more than is really needed.

There's a pause, the sound of her tongue sucking against her teeth, the consideration of whether or not to say more. It'd be nice to help, if not for any actual altruistic reasons, then at least to sate her own need to do something, to not just sit around and wait to see whether they actually get to leave. )

For now, what we need from you are your emotions. And, of course, for you to help out one another - I do what I can, but there are many things I can't do, and many things I don't understand.

Like human relationships and your tendency to blame the easiest target for anything that goes wrong.
